Chirag Sharma is a Product Designer and Design Educator with over a decade of experience spanning startups, consulting, and global technology organizations. Prior to joining MIT Institute of Design, he worked at Microsoft, contributing to product experiences used by millions of people worldwide. Across his career, he has worked on complex design challenges across enterprise software, finance, aviation, hospitality, agriculture, and emerging technology domains.

An alumnus of MIT Institute of Design’s M.Des. in User Experience Design program and the Gold Medalist of his graduating batch, Chirag returned to MITID as an Assistant Professor in 2026. For him, the journey comes full circle with his return to the institution that played a defining role in shaping his journey as a designer. After a decade in industry, he chose education as his next chapter, driven by a desire to multiply his impact through teaching, mentorship, and the designers he helps shape.

His work sits at the intersection of design, technology, and human behaviour. Drawing from years of experience in product design, user research, strategy, and cross-functional collaboration, he encourages students to move beyond designing interfaces and develop a deeper understanding of the systems, people, and contexts that shape meaningful experiences.

He is particularly interested in the evolving relationship between design and artificial intelligence, and how emerging technologies continue to reshape the role of designers. Through his teaching, he focuses on helping students build strong foundations in design thinking, product thinking, and responsible innovation while preparing them for the opportunities and challenges of a rapidly changing industry.

At the heart of his work is a belief that good design extends beyond products and interfaces. Whether through technology, systems, or education, he sees design as a means to create meaningful change for individuals, organizations, and society.
