A research scholar at IIT Guwahati, Bhavin Mali is pursuing PhD in the area of emotional product design for fostering sustainable behaviours. An alumnus of the reputed National Institute of Design, Ahmedabad, Bhavin Mali is a product designer with special affinity for ‘green’ products and services and always strives to achieve simplicity in the final result.

With over 17 years of work experience, Bhavin Mali has worked with a variety of industrial and academic organizations in different capacities. His professional career started as ‘sales executive’ at Maruti Suzuki and progressed as ‘quality control engineer’ at Godrej & Boyce, design intern at Elephant Design + Strategy, designer at REVA Electric Car Company, Yobykes Electric vehicles and freelance designer for various clients from startups to MNCs. In the last 11 years of being a design educator, he has been actively associated with various institutes and universities viz. Ajeenkya DY Patil University, ISDI School of Design and Innovation, DJ Academy of Design, Symbiosis Institute of Design etc. for teaching, mentoring or evaluating their design students. Bhavin strives to inculcate among his students the business value of design, its impact on sustainable behaviours and emotional well-being of the people.

Research interests:
Emotional product design, product attachment, emotional durability, product behavior, emotional well-being, sustainable behavior, design education.

Design interests:
Simple products, kitchen and food products, designing perception, design for sustainability, design for business, natural materials and traditional processes, modern craft, simple organic product forms, product service systems, craftsmanship-oriented projects.
