Rikimi Madhukaillya is an Academician, an art, design, pedagogy researcher and writer, a set and costume designer and an art critic and curator.
She holds a Ph.D. in Fine Arts from Kurukshetra University and has a background in Fine Arts and Art History, having graduated from Jawaharlal Nehru University, Delhi and Kala Bhavana, Santiniketan. Rikimi has taught at UID-Karnavati University, Sharda University, Pearl Academy, Delhi, Mumbai and Bangalore, Kurukshetra University and International College for Girls’ , Jaipur as full-time faculty member. Whereas she has taught at National Museum Institute, Delhi, IGNOU, Delhi College of Arts and many other institutes in various capacities. Her training as researcher took place under the guidance of renowned Indian art professionals: Geeta Kapoor, late Vivan Sundaram, Neville Tuli etc. In 2012, she was awarded a residency by Pro Helvetia to research Swiss video art, which culminated with the curation of the video lounge at the Kochi Muziris Biennale and India Art Fair.
Rikimi has also pursued work as a curator of contemporary art, collaborating with reputed Indian institutions such as the National Gallery of Modern Art in Delhi & Bengaluru. She has also curated exhibitions and public programs for private and public galleries & collections, such Kochi Muziris Biennale, India Art Fair, Khoj International Artist Organisation, Osian’s Connoisseurs of Arts, Histare etc. In 2006, Rikimi together with educationist & theatre director Mrityunjay Prabhakar co-initiated SEHAR -Society for Education, Harmony, Art Culture and Research, a collective of researchers and cultural workers developing artistic and educational projects, with a focus on theatre production.
Rikimi has been experimenting with theatre in design classroom for over eight years now.
