Suvodeep Misra is a researcher, educator, and design practitioner specializing in design ethics, socio-technological studies, human-computer interaction (HCI), and Indian philosophy. He is an Assistant Professor in the M.Des. program for Information Design and Data Visualization at the MIT Institute of Design, Pune. His research focuses on the ethical and cultural dimensions of information, exploring how data influences human behavior and decision-making across diverse social and technological contexts. He investigates how insights from Indian philosophy and global socio-technological frameworks can inform the design of ethical, context-sensitive, and responsible solutions with minimal negative impact. Additionally, his work examines the behavioral impact of information visualization, analyzing how different cultural perspectives shape the interpretation and reception of visualized data.
In teaching, Suvodeep specializes in usability engineering, fundamentals of data visualization, design research, and data prototyping, with a strong emphasis on ethical considerations in design. He encourages students to integrate cultural awareness, systems thinking, and responsible innovation into their practice. He holds an M.Des. from Srishti Institute of Art, Design, and Technology and a B.Tech. from Manipal Institute of Technology and is currently pursuing his Ph.D. in Design from the Department of Design at IIT Guwahati.
