Process for Master Of Design (M.Des) Program
PHASE 1: Submission of Portfolio & Statement of Purpose (SOP)
For M.Des admissions process, candidates are required to submit their Portfolio and Statement of Purpose (SOP) and the same will be reviewed by the examination committee Based on the evaluation, shortlisted candidates will be invited for the second phase of the admission process.
M.Des admission process, you are required to submit the following documents
- Portfolio – A compilation of your creative works/projects that best showcase your skills, design thinking, and creativity.
- Statement of Purpose (SOP) – A written document (approx. 800–1000 words) stating your motivation to pursue M.Des, your career aspirations, and why you wish to join MIT Institute of Design.
Submission Guidelines
- Please ensure the portfolio is in PDF format (or provide a link if the file size is large).
- The SOP should be a separate PDF/Word document.
- Both documents must be uploaded in the Documents section of the application form on or before 28th February 2026

SOP Format
- Note: In case your portfolio or showreel file size exceeds 10 MB, please provide a link (within a PDF file) giving clear access to the main portfolio file stored online (e.g., Google Drive, Dropbox, etc.). Ensure that the access permissions are properly set so the file can be viewed without restrictions.
PHASE 2: Studio Test and Personal Interview for M.Des
The result of shortlisted candidates from Phase I for the Phase 2 selection process will be announced on MITID website.
The Studio Test and Personal Interview will be conducted at the MIT Institute of Design campus, Pune. The admission procedure will consist of a Studio Test followed by a Personal Interview, conducted by the respective department to which the student has applied. Candidates are required to demonstrate their skills, creativity, and suitability for the program through their portfolio, showcasing both academic and professional work as applicable.
No separate call letters will be sent to the shortlisted candidates. All those candidates called for the rounds are required to attend the studio tests and interview, which completes the process of selection.
The Admission Committee decides the procedures, grades and weightage every year.
The norms for the selection are the sole prerogative of the Admission Committee and the decision of the Admission Committee and the Management in any of the matters concerning the admission process and selection will be final. Any direct or indirect attempt to influence the admission committee or its members, academic office bearers or management will lead to the automatic disqualification of the candidate(s).

Note: The candidates applying under reserved category have to upload applicable documents for consideration of their candidature under the reserved category. If the candidate fails to upload the applicable documents before the last date of application his / her candidature will be considered under General Open Category.
Social and Vertical Reservation:
- 1. Rules of reservations apply as per the prevalent Government of Maharashtra directives. Maximum Social or vertical reservation will be up to 50% only and additional 10% for EWS. Category wise reservations is applicable for Maharashtra state candidates only. EWS reservation is applicable to all.
- 2. All Other than Maharashtra candidates except EWS will be considered under OMS General Open category.

3. Apart from the above reservations, there will be parallel reservations for Son/Daughter of Defence Service Personnel.
Five percent seats of the total sanctioned intake of the institute shall be reserved for children of ex-service personnel and active service personnel who are domiciled in Maharashtra and of active service personnel, who are not domiciled in Maharashtra but are transferred to Maharashtra.
Provided that such candidate should have appeared and passed the HSC examination from the school situated in Maharashtra. For claiming the reservation for Defence quota candidate has to submit certificate issued by concerned authority before the deadline. - 4. The Candidates appearing for the 12th Std / final year graduation (applicable for candidates applying for M.Des) or equivalent examination are not required to submit 12th / final year graduation Mark sheet, however the admission will be confirmed to selected candidates only on clearing the 12th std / final year graduation.
- 5. Application form fees is non-refundable in any case.
- 6. The incomplete application forms / not satisfying eligibility criteria will be rejected. The MITID DET (Design Entrance Test) fees for such rejected applications will not be refunded.
- 7. No official communication will be made regarding rejected application forms.
- 8. Admission is on the basis of MITID method of selection, which extends beyond the students previous academic qualifications. The MITID Admission Committee systematically seeks evidence of the perception, attitude, aptitude, achievement and motivation essential for a challenging and satisfying design career. The objective of the tests and the interviews is to ascertain the above qualities.
